We are always working on new (and old) building projects here at the homestead. Most recently, our house construction occupied a great deal of our time and energy. We make an effort to build using natural materials, preferably, materials that are right from our site (wood, stone, sand). We've learned to use older methods of construction, like timber framing, since newer methods generally call for sheet goods and laminated wood products that aren't growing on our land. With an abundance of wood on site, it makes sense to build, whenever we can, with wood. Similarly, the Green River at our southern property edge supplies us with rocks for foundations and retaining walls.
