Slipform Stonework
After much deliberation, we decided to build our house foundation using slipform stone building techniques. The basement will be
uninsulated, and used to store winter vegetables and fruits of all kinds. We spent about 3 1/2 months building the foundation. Patrick and one of our first WWOOFers built all of the forms from lumber we milled on site. We had a pretty steep learning curve in mixing and
pouring concrete as well as laying the stones and backfilling with sand to prevent the wet concrete from staining the front face of the
stones. Once we got into the rhythm of it, it was just a matter of putting in the time, working the walls up stone by stone.
